Bellatrix Socks
They are coming along! This is really easy pattern to memorize so it's pretty much mindless knitting for me.
I tried the "eye of partridge" heel for these socks. They turned out more like a "blinking eye of partridge" due to some errors -- but they fit well and no one is really going to notice that I knit when I should have slipped a stitch in a few places.

My nutty husband....
This evening I was chatting with him while he was on break at work and he mentioned that he's had a great week with really nice tips, and suggested we go out this weekend. And then he said "And while we're out I'm going to pick out yarn for you to make me a Central Park Hoodie". He loves my sweater and wants one of his own.
I said "It's a girl's sweater".
He replied: "What makes it a girl's sweater? It's got cables, I like cables. It's got a hoodie, I like hoodies. Just put the buttons on the other side."
He does make me smile.

Wisp Wrap/Stole/Scarf
Nothing makes you finish a lacy project faster than knowing that you have to return your friend Kristina's lace blocking wires ASAP....
I finally finished this project up - a very easy to memorize lace repeat on size 8 needles makes it a quick going. However, with mohair, you have to remember there is little room for error as ripping back is tricky, if not nearly impossible.
I'll pick up the little shell buttons for the edge either at lunch or this evening.

Dirk's Wildfoote Socks
The socks have heels and I'm making my way up the leg. I had Dirk try them on and asked "you just wanted anklets, right?"
I thought it was worth asking......
On the Central Park Hoodie project, I seamed the shoulders, picked up for the hood and have about 3 inches of the hood done. The sleeves are currently blocking on the dining room table.
On the 'Wisp' project I've completed 10 repeats; only 7 more to go and I'll definitely be using the second ball of the Pash-Mohair.

Project Updated
I finished the sleeves on my Central Park Hoodie, blocked the left front and the back currently on blocking wires (thank you Kristina for letting me borrow them!)
I have an ancient digital camera that I hope to some day replace. I promise that this sweater does have the beautiful cables on it, you just can't see them due to the shitty photos my camera takes.
I'm also 7 repeats into the "Wisp" from knitty.com that I started last week and it's really lovely. Again, the camera took pretty crappy photos and unblocked it looks pretty lame. However, if you do want to see a photo head over to my Ravelry account (PixieM). Definitely going to need to get my own blocking wires to show this one off!

Knitty.com 'Wisp'
Apparently I have an illness that prevents me from finishing a project before I start a new one, but for this one I really had a good reason.
I got a phone call this morning to see if I could head over to YarnArts until someone else could get there to open the shop. When I got there I realized I didn't have a project with me to keep me occupied for the 45 minutes I would need to be there -- can you imagine the horror!?
Anyway, I grabbed some mohair and some needles that were floating around in my bag and started on 'Wisp' from Knitty.com in Mango Moon Pash-Mohair. You looking at how far I got before I left.

CPH Update
No photos at this time but I have finished the armhole decreases on the front and am making my way to the neck line. I haven't had much time to knit lately and have a LONG list of things I want to make.....I need to get this sweater done so that I can start something new.
The husband's socks are coming along slowly. I suppose they would be going quicker if I was knitting on them, eh? I take them to work every day with the intention of knitting while on break and I wind up not pulling them out. Maybe today will be the day.

The back is done. This is version II. Version I was completed all the way to the armholes before I decided I didn't like the how the size was coming out on the needle size I was using.

YARN!
Spent the afternoon at YarnArt fondling the new colors of Cascade 220. Managed NOT to bring any home. However, when I got home I realized that balls of Rowan DK Cashsoft, 4 balls of Regia Bamboo Sock Yarn and 2 more balls of Rowan Tweed jumped in my car with me.
What in the HELL is wrong with me? I need more yarn like, well, like a yarn whore needs more yarn.
I can justify the Rowan Tweed, they are the "just in case I need more yarn " for my Central Park Hoodie. And I've never used Bamboo sock yarn....and well, Cashsoft 35% off? Need I say more?

Central Park Hoodie
If you scroll back a few posts, my sweater looks almost exactly like it did in that picture. However, please note that last Sunday after getting all the way past the armhole decreases I decided it looked smaller than I wanted so I ripped the entire thing out.
My husband gasped so loud the cat jumped.
I knitted all night on Sunday and got about 5-6 inches done and haven't knitted on it since then. For whatever reason, I haven't been knitting on the weeknights lately.

Coronet Hat #2
This awesome Plymouth Tweed yarn has been hanging around my stash forever. Last time I made this hat, I really liked it but it was a store sample, so it wasn't mine forever.
So, what could I possibly not like about this hat? It's slightly too big for me, but as usual it fits my husband perfectly. He swears it matches his pajamas and wears it around the house.

Danica #2 - DONE!
And it was a HUGE hit with my husband. It will look a bit better with some blocking, so that is on the agenda for later this week.
I still haven't finished the husband's fingerless gloves. I worked on them for a bit two weeks ago before I threw them across the room, needles and all, in a fit of disgust when I realized I missed 4 stitches of increases 3 inches back when I started to divide the thumb gusset from the hand. I ripped it all back and crammed the whole project into it's little project bag and am trying to forget about them. Damn husband keeps asking about them though.
I'm starting my Central Park Hoodie on Feb 1 and am really excited about this Knit-A-Long with the rest of my YarnArts sisters.
No pictures for now, but I'll get one of the husband in his Danica this weekend!

Quad Color Socks

I was flipping through the book, 'Kristen Knits' at YarnArts last weekend and saw the socks in there and instantly knew why I had been coveting the Mission Falls 1824 Superwash Wool.
This yarn knits up like a dream and I already have 4 colors sitting in my knitting basket for another pair of socks. When I started this pair my husband of course asked "Are those for me?", so his pair will be cast on tomorrow in a white/medium blue/hunter green/red combo

Pattern: Cast on 5, increase to 40 for standard sock for me. Short row heel.
I had been oogling this yarn for quite some time at YarnArts, then last weekend I flipped through the 'Kristin Knits' books while I was there and a vision for a pair of socks for me was born.
You can't see it in the photos, but yes the respective heels are contrasting with the sock and each other.

Danica #2
My lovely husband requested his own Danica in the colors of his favorite English league football team -- the Wolverhampton Wolves.
The weaving in of all the ends due to the color changes may be the death of me, but I know that he knows how much work this is and loves to show off to all his pals what I make him.
He recently switched shops and the difference is night and day. At the previous shop, the guys would ask "Did your wife make that?" with a shitty attitude. Where he is now, the guys ask "Did your wife make that?" with total awe and a bit of jealousy in their tone. It makes me laugh. (Husband is a tattoo artist and all the guys that he works with now are totally into hand knit scarves)

A LOVELY Yule Swap Gift!
I got a fantastic surprise in the post this afternoon from a friend of mine. I *heart* the laceweight yarn and the photo just doesn't capture the color. It's a heathered brown/green/reddish color and is wonderfully soft.
The doll holding the needles was handcrafted by my friend, Eve-Marie and she's got a pin on the back so that I can carry her around on my knitting bag.
The red bit on the bottom is a gorgeous red wrap that I will get lots of use out of.
I have wonderful friends.

Danica Scarf
This is a *FAST* knit! I just started this last night, worked on it while watching my husband watch The Simpson movie. Took it to YarnArts today and tried to work on it a bit between yip-yaping with Kathleen, Joy, Sophia and everyone else that popped in and out.
This was to be a Yule Swap gift, however, since Yule was on Friday, I totally missed the deadline. However, my lovely swap partner has known that I was going to miss the date and it's all good.
The pattern is well written and moving along quickly. Dirk wants one in the team color for the Wolverhampton Wolves, the English Football team we follow. YarnArts has the *perfect* golden yellow/orange color in Misson Falls wool and I'm excited since I thought it would be an odd shade to try to match up. The second color in the scarf will be black.

Project Update
I am about 20 repeats in the green mohair Knitty.com 'Branching Out' scarf for my mother in law and because I am almost to the end, I am trying to resist the urge to cast on a new project.
I started the second fingerless glove for Dirk, but just need to sit down and work on it if I think I'm going to have them done any time soon. The pressure as a holiday gift is off since he knows about them.
Saturday night was my work holiday party and I wore my red cashmere/silk Mystery Stole 2 and it was so lovely over an all black outfit (paired with my red, black and white cowboy boots!). I had a few people ask if I made it and one woman grabbed the end of it and gently tugged me over to her husband to show it to him (blush). Then she foolishly asked if I could make her something "similar but not as complex". I just chuckled as MY husband laughed so loud the cat jumped.
My LYS, YarnArts of Parker, just got in some *divine* handdyed alpaca yarn from a local farm (Lonesome Stone) and it was SO HARD to walk away from it and leave it all by it's 'lonesome' on the shelf.

Entrelac Hat - FINISHED
The pattern was written by a wonderful friend of mine and once I got past the frustration of having NO idea how to knit entrelac, it was fun and fast.
Note: The issues wasn't so much with the pattern but with me. Once I get frustrated with something it takes me a bit to get past not getting it to just sit down and think the pattern through.
We also got a photo of our brindle boy modeling the pre-felted hat...he was not pleased at all and did not see the humor in the photo taking event that we did.
And now onto a photo of the finished hat post-felting! The hat is a little too big for me and unfortunately are "girly" colors because it fits Dirk perfectly. He's been wearing it around the house the past few days just to tease me that it fits him so well.

Finishing projects, but not the ones I need to be finishing...

I finished and felted the test pattern for Sophia's Entrelac hat -- and it's awesome. However the batteries are dead in my camera and Dirk has his camera at work. We did take a photo pre-felting for comparison that I'll post with the finished project photo later this week.
I finished one of Dirk's fingerless gloves. They were supposed to be a surprise, but I really didn't want to find out after I knitted both of them that they didn't fit so I had him try on the first one. His response? "It's like wearing air wrapped around my hand!"
My cross-hatch lace socks are past the ankles about 2 or 3 inches and should be done some time this year. The challenge is that it's a 8 row pattern repeat that I haven't memorized so I have to pay attention to what I'm doing.
The branching out scarf is about 1/2 way done -- and I really should be knitting at least one pattern repeat of that right now instead of just blogging about it.

To My No Longer a Secret Pal....
I LOVE LOVE LOVE everything in the parcel that came today! I pulled out the beautiful cardboard storage tube and thought -- WOW! A wine bottle carrier! (laugh!) It never occured to me to stick needles in it until I read your note. (snort...)

Sophia's Felted Entrelac Hat
Here's an updated photo of the pattern I am test knitting for my friend, Sophia.
This is my first go at entrelac so there were quite a few curses being thrown around at the start and a tear or two. However, now that I've got my head wrapped around the concept, the hat is zipping along! I'm hoping to have it felted and wearable by this weekend for my birthday!

Knitting Update
I'm still plugging away at the branching out scarf, I'm about 50% of the way done...sigh...well this freakin' scarf EVER be done?
My cross-hatch lace socks are moving along as well. I'm about to the ankle and have switched up one needle size for the leg than I used on the foot and I'm hoping that makes them go a bit quicker.

On Sunday I got a test pattern from a friend for a felted entrelac hat to test knit for her and can you believe I could NOT find any yarn in my stash to make the hat? It was tough, but I had to pick out new yarn....(laugh).
Life has been crazy lately so I wasn't able to teach any classes this month at YarnArts, but I'm definitely planning some for December. I'll try to get it cast on later this week so that I can give the designer feedback.
Well, if I want to get some knitting time in tonight, I better log off!
My cross-hatch lace socks are moving along as well. I'm about to the ankle and have switched up one needle size for the leg than I used on the foot and I'm hoping that makes them go a bit quicker.

5 Hour Baby Sweater
Knitted because I liked the yarn so I made a small baby sweater as a store sample for YarnArts.
Yarn: Universal Yarn 'Belle' and 'Dots'. I loved working with this yarn, it's 100% machine washable acrylic blend, but feels very nice and was nice to work with.
Needles: Denise Interchangeable US 6

Knitty.com Branching Out Progress
Here's a photo update of the progress on this project. I'm starting to like it more as I've had some practice working with the sticky mohair. I'm also getting excited to see how it's going to look after it is blocked out.
I think before I give it away, I'll leave it at YarnArts for a bit as a store sample. The whole reason I made this is that this yarn had looked so lonely on the store shelf for so long and I wasn't sure how it looked knitted up into something. As a customer, I like being able to see different projects in a variety of yarns - plus as a knitter it is fun to try something new out and share the results!

Coronet Hat
What an easy one day project! I picked up the yarn on Friday night (Cascade 220) to make a store model, cast on yesterday afternoon and finished up just as the Rockies tanked in Game 3 of the World Series last night.
The only thing I don't like is the turning purl row, on my hat it just looks a little "messy". But I do like how the cable bit turned up to double the warmth around the ears, so when I make a second hat I'll have to sort out how to make the turning row neater.

Project Status
I turned the heel on my crosshatch lace socks in Trekking XXL the other night and now I'm working my way up the leg. It's still the wrong pattern/colorway combination but DAMN! these socks fit well! Husband has requested another pair of socks...ugh...knitting socks for his big feet takes 3 times as long as it does to make my little socks.
I'm trying to make myself knit 1 pattern repeats at least three times a week on the Branching Out scarf. I'll get some photos this weekend to share. It's coming along. Still not crazy about the mohair but I love the color and it is going to be really nice.
Mystery Stole What? Oh, yeah, Mystery Stole 3. It's going the path of MS2 which I let lay in the knitting bag for months and months and months before I just sat down with it. It requires a lot of concentration on both the pattern and the beads that it's hard to carve out time to work on it. It really needs a couple of hours at a stretch. I was invigorated when I saw someone else's completed MS3 earlier this week, it was gorgeous.

I found a good pattern, now I need a soft DK weight wool in a heathered grey. I'm also thinking I might want a superwash wool for these, though that isn't essential. I was flipping through the Knitpicks catalog last night, but that is dangerous waters....

SP11 Gift Package
Here's the pile of goodies from my Secret Pal -- I forgot to mention the adorable little tin of Tootsie Rolls in last post!
I spent Friday night at the new location for the LYS where I work and teach classes trying to help get everything set up in the new space. I also spent most of today over there -- it's almost done and it's going to be great once we have it all arranged. Though, we usually move things around at least twice a month so it will take time to get all the yarn in the right place! Especially since I know there are shipments of Rowan, Mission Falls, Berrocco and Encore Worsted on on a truck to us.
P.S. We got almost 6 inches of snow this morning; I guess Winter is on his way.

I got a Secret Pal 11 Package!
Yesterday I got a phone call at work from my husband letting me know that I had Secret Pal package. The afternoon then seemed to d-r-a-g on until it was time for me to head home!
I loved everything in the box. I've never had any of the Debbie Bliss yarn and was thrilled with my pal's choice in material (alpaca silk) and color (a lovely minty green)! Though husband, said it's just not the right color for his new hat.
Believe it or not it was a beautiful lacy (and sage green) cotton washrag that got the most attention. We were upstairs in our bedroom when I opened the box and I tossed the washrag over to my husband to look at where he was lounging on the bed one of our boxer dogs. However, instead of catching the washrag, it landed on her head like a huge yarmulke -- and she never even shook it off. Instead she proudly wore it on her head. :)
Also tucked into the "green theme" box was a bar of lemongrass flavored soap, a pack of adorable sheep cards and some seeds for my garden!
I'll get some pictures to post later this weekend!

Project Update
The mohair scarf (branching out) is still hairy. It's slowly growing on the needles, but that is only because I am forcing myself to knit at least 1 pattern repeat each time I pick it up. Now I just need to pick it up more often.
I'm onto the gusset increases for the Crosshatch Lace socks.
While I was YarnArts this weekend, instead of working on either of these projects I made mitten store sample in Berroco 'Keltic'. I love the yarn and need a pair of mittens made with it for myself.
Mystery Stole 3 is still 'marinating' in the knitting basket.

Huacaya Alpaca Fiber
This afternoon a wonderful friend of mine spent some time giving me some pointers on plying my handspun (and very crappily handspun I might add) singles into 2 ply.
I was pretty excited about the whole thing.
And I also made a teeny tiny skein of much better spun singles from some Suri alpaca that I plied.

Stagnant Projects
Of course I started a new pair of socks as soon as I finished the Purple Splendor Wildfoote ones...Trekking XXL color #163.
The stitch pattern is 'Crosshatch Lace' from C. Schurch's More Sensational Knitted Socks.
In hindsight, not the best yarn and stitch pattern combo to compliment both to their best, but I like my variegated socks to have some kind of texture and I liked the look of this pattern.
I now realize that I have oodles of variegated and self striping sock yarn in my stash and not enough plain colors. (insert magical sound) I predict a shopping splurge with KnitPicks in my future. (exit magical sound)
You can see to the right that my Mystery Stole 3 and my Knitty Branching Out scarf are both stagnant. I'm to the beginning of Clue 4 on MS3, but just haven't been able to put the necessary brain power into working on it. The scarf is just irritating to me, but I'd like to finish it and give it to my mother-in-law for Christmas. Speaking of Christmas, I need to think about what I'd like to make for my mom as well. Maybe I'll pick a different lacy scarf -- any suggestions? I'd like the pattern to be fairly simple so that I can get it done quickly.
Well, I better get in to the shower and cleaned up so that when my friend Mardi gets here I am ready to head out to kiss on some alpacas.

Turned the heels on my socks!
I got the heels on my Purple Splendor Wildfoote socks on Thursday night. For me this is the most exciting part of sock knitting.
This morning I printed out information on The Red Scarf Project. I'm going to ask the two other women in my office who knit if they would like to make scarves for the project with me.
Tomorrow I have the first part of my Beginning Knitting Workshop with 6 students. :)

Why I should not hang out at the yarn shop
..sigh...
I am so easily influenced by others.
When I walked into the shop on Saturday a few people were knitting on their neck down raglan sweaters -- and before I knew what was happening I tossed my sweet little in-progress toe up socks to the floor and had 10 skeins of 'Highlander' by Alpaca with a Twist piled in front of me as I mused on how to center a cable on the sleeves of a neck down raglan...
I did however break tradition and did NOT purchase this yarn in the lovely green that was also available.

Cast on yet another pair of socks....
Yesterday I spent the afternoon at YarnArts hanging out. I cast on and ripped out "Branching" from Knitty.com at least three times. I was having a disagreement with both the pattern and the yarn - apparently they were not meant for each other. Instead I sat socializing and teaching a friend how to knit and started her on a garter stitch scarf.
Last night I spent hours pouring through books, patterns and Ravelry before I grabbed two skeins of Brown Sheep Wildfoote (in SY17 Purple Splendor) and cast on a pair of toe up socks. I haven't yet decided on what foot/cuff patterning I'll use if any. That is one thing that I love about toe up socks, I can make it up as I go. Once I get the toes to a good size I can fiddle with the number of stitches to work out a lace or ribbing pattern.
This afternoon I'm heading to a friend's house to sit on her deck and knit. :) Life is good.

Secret Pal 11
What a wonderful package to be presented with last night when I got home from work!
It was a "garden" themed package with pressed flower cards, tea bags, a little floral address book, flower stickers, a knitted/felted Gerbera daisy kit and some really cool seeds for my garden!
Thank you SP11. I *love* everything. My husband thought the Gerbera Daisy kit was the best, he brought it up in conversation again this morning at breakfast. :)

Monkey Socks

Monkey Socks
Started the monkey socks for a THIRD freaking time...I think it's going well thus far. I went up a needle size to a US2 and things are looking better.
However, I have a confession....I've only ever made one pair of socks cuff down with a gusset heel. I'm a little afraid of picking up the stitches.

Monkey Socks are pissing me off.....
First cast on was frogged when about 6 rows into the ribbing I got distracted and for whatever reason I started knitting in the wrong direction....
Cast on a second time and I'm into repeat two of the lace....and the sock looks too small and doesn't fit right over my heel and leg. And the yarn (Silky Sock) is twisting onto itself off the ball like crazy and it's annoying me.
Going to cast on tomorrow with a larger needle.
If something goes wrong after that, I'm ditching this pattern.

My visit with the alpacas today....
I stopped by my friend's farm, Almar Farm Alpacas, today to see the little girl that was born yesterday afternoon! That little fluff of white is Fleur and she was so sweet. The black alpaca is Gina, the white one on the right is Yolanda and she is the mom to Fleur. The white one in the background is pregnant and due in the next week or so.
I got to hold Fleur but those photos are on my friend's camera.
I also picked up a skein of yarn from their prize herdsire "Sir Prize" for my secret pal package.

Sockotta Socks
Yesterday I finally finished the gussets and turned the heels on these socks. I've had little time to knit lately and have been so anxious to finish these socks so that I can start a pair of Monkey socks. Since I'm on the "non-thinking" cuffs, I can get these finished in no time. I'm at the perfect spot in the project for working on them on the train on the way into work. Again, I love this Sockotta yarn!
Had a nice small beginner Toe-Up Sock class yesterday at YarnArts and everyone seemed to have a good time. I love teaching classes there and today I have part 1 of a Beginner's Knit Workshop.
Mystery Stole 3 will most likely get some attention this evening. Last week there was a tragic accident that involved a mistake that turned into a disaster when I tried to correct it. I wound up ripping out the first 15 rows of Clue 3.
Well, it's off to the shower and the farmer's market for me.
